Fees FAQ

Our Fees Explained

We’re adjusting our fees and doubling down on service.

Federal, state, and local laws can be confusing.

What’s the situation?

Let’s start with one thing: if you’ve ever worked with SpectrumVoIP, you know the core things that we pride ourselves on are simplicity, transparency, and fairness. We strive to be a human company whose main goal is to simplify saving you money on business communication services. Federal, state, and local laws are complex and often changing. What’s worse is the amount mandated from some of these laws and regulations changes almost daily! We always want to keep things simple and provide value to our customers.

What are the changes?

We hope the information below might help you answer any questions about why the following items might show up on your bill, or change from month to month.

E911 fee

The Emergency 911 fee is the cost to register and maintain every phone number with accurate address information to be passed on to local emergency services in the event someone dials 911 on a SpectrumVoIP phone. State law mandates the fee, levied as either a per-telephone access line or percentage of revenue. We are tasked with collecting this fee on behalf of local jurisdictions around the state, not for us to directly benefit.

FUSF Fee

The Federal Universal Service Fund fee is a federally-mandated, FCC-regulated fee that’s collected to raise funds for telecom infrastructure nationwide. Changing quarterly, this fund is used by all levels of government to improve access to modern telecom services, including schools, public libraries, healthcare facilities, and those located in rural areas. It also subsidizes local service to high-cost areas and low-income customers.

Carrier Cost Recovery Fee

With the constant evolution of cybercrime and identity theft, security and redundancy are of the utmost importance to our customers. The Carrier Cost Recovery Fee is used to provide funds for multiple defense measures that we and our partner organizations can utilize to reduce exposure to online disruption. It also goes towards administering and complying with government programs such as the Wireless Local Number Portability (WLNP), and government programs like the Telecommunications Relay Service. At the end of the day, it’s all about mitigating DDoS or other types of infrastructure attacks to provide reliable, continued service to customers.
